Varnish cambric electrical insulation tape is made of straight-cut woven cotton fabric. Its fabric is primed with oil and coated in an electrical insulating finish. The varnish ensures that the tape remains intact as currents pass through the wire.

2. Adhesive Tape Strength

These adhesive have higher tack (again “stickyness when dry” for the layman) than acrylic adhesives as well as higher shear strength but they have limited UV resistance. These are used in the cheapest tapes on the market, but have limited applications. Natural rubber adhesives are used in duct tapes, low-temperature masking tapes and surface protection tapes (think of the tape you get on your new fridge or stove).

Before ordering any type of tape, check to see what kind of adhesion it uses. The adhesive side of a tape roll, colloquially called the sticky side, commonly comes in three varieties: acrylic, hot melt, and natural rubber.
