Leather Oil Seals – They are also known as Type L Oil Seals and are used most with parts that are subject to dirt and poor lubrication. They are pre-lubricated and can absorb fluids and can provide sealing properties in conditions that synthetic rubber is unable to.

Nitrile oil seals offer several advantages over other types of seals. Their excellent resistance to hydrocarbons, such as gasoline, diesel, and lubricating oils, makes them ideal for automotive engines and transmission systems. Moreover, they exhibit good compression set resistance, ensuring a long-lasting seal even under constant pressure. Their ability to maintain their integrity in both cold and hot conditions further enhances their versatility.

Oil seals are installed beside the bearing while the flexible lip is pressed against the rotating shaft. The casing pressing into the housing holds the seal in place. The sealing lip is essentially lubricated to minimize the risk of overheating due to the generated friction.

2. Limited availability Some high temperature rubber gaskets may be difficult to find, especially for specific applications or sizes.

If the seal is being fitted to original equipment you may have some influence over the shaft and housing bore finish, but if you are replacing a worn seal you still need to take into account the condition of these 2 essential parts.
