Lyocell is similar to viscose in that it is a regenerated cellulose fabric, but is made with a more eco-friendly process. TheU.S. Federal Trade Commissiondefines lyocell as rayons “composed of cellulose precipitated from an organic solution in which no substitution of the hydroxyl groups takes place and no chemical intermediates are formed” — essentially meaning it does not use the harmful chemical solvents normal viscoses use. Lyocell production also results in little waste product, but it is still relatively energy intensive.

Supima®, the trademarked name for American Pima cotton, is a close second to Egyptian cotton. Made with long-staple as well, this cotton is durable, high quality, and still luxuriously soft without as high of a price tag as Egyptian cotton. 

Pima cotton is a rare type of cotton fiber grown in Peru, Australia, and the US. A relative of the Egyptian cotton plant, Pima cotton boasts of extra-long fibers - up to 50% longer than average - coming from the fluffiest part of the plant. Pima cotton bed sheets are known to be durable yet resistant to wrinkles.
