Charged electrical wiring can also cause materials used in certain types of tape to dry out and even catch fire. For example, the cloth fibers used in the backings of many duct tapes are susceptible to burning at high voltages, creating a fire risk. You wouldn’t want to use a duct tape or other cloth tape to insulate wiring!

Self-amalgamating tape is very similar to silicone tape, because it bonds to itself when it is stretched. It doesn’t contain any adhesive or gum to create a seal like most tapes. It is made of ethylene propylene rubber and needs to be lapped over itself to work. 

For applications that require a higher level of water resistance or waterproofing, specialized tapes or additional measures may be necessary. It’s recommended to assess the specific requirements of your application and consider the expected level of water exposure to determine whether polyethylene tape alone provides sufficient water resistance or if additional waterproofing measures are necessary.
